A Little Story on Texas Holdem Terms...
"As I started to play texas holdem on a regular basis, my game started to improve drastically. I had a good understanding of what hands to play and how to play them. The only problem I had in the beginning was figuring out the texas holdem terms and lingo. I was too embarrassed to ask other players because I didn’t want my texas holdem image to be perceived as a weak competitor. So during every game I played, not only did I improve my game strategy, I made it a habit to listen, learn and understand holdem terms."
Like any other sport or activity, texas holdem has a language of its own. To look like a real poker pro, you first have to talk like one. Listed below is a directory of holdem terms in alphabetical order. Also included is a list of various poker hands that have colorful names (referenced from the book Super System, by Doyle Brunson).
ABC - Cut
"I had American Airlines and he had bottom pair. My hand got cracked on the river!"
Dead Man's Hand - Muck
"The maniac was on a flush draw so I bet big so he wouldn't see a free card. He flat called and hit; I knew I had to lay down my hand when a heart showed up."
No Limit - Rush
"I raised preflop to represent a big hand on the button. The flop was ragged, so I played my position like i had the nuts."
Sandbag - Wired Pair
"I had top pair and my opponent slowplayed his trips. I was on tilt after that hand."
